Chicago, Ill: The two speed kings, Ralph De Palma and Dario Resta, have a race all of their own to decide which is supreme. Subtitle: Resta wins the fifty-mile race in less than 32 minutes. Auckland, N.Z: Ceaseless is the stream of recruits from the confines of Britain's far-flung Empire. Subtitle: After the drill sergeant has licked them into shape, the troops are inspected in full dress before leaving to join their brother Anzacs in Europe. Washington, D.C: The Aero Club place an airship on the lawn of the Senate office to demonstrate to Congressmen and Senators the need for more aerial equipment. Cambridge, Mass: Throngs of students and onlookers gather at Harvard to celebrate the annual Ivy Day. Brooklyn Navy Yard: Following the mobilization of the National Guard, the U.S. super dreadnought Texas leaves for an unknown destination. French War Front: A new military dirigible is inspected by prominent Government officials before being placed into commission. El Paso, Texas: Mexican peons, fleeing from the anarchy of their native soil, find a land of liberty under the Stars and Stripes. Subtitles: After being vaccinated the emigrants receive their passes. They are lined up to listen to the inducements offered by labor agents. The emigrants rush to join whichever agent they fancy, and are sent away by tram. New York City: The "Gallant 69th," one of the first regiments of the National Guard to answer the call to duty, leaves for the border. Subtitles: Armed and equipped for war service the regiment, 1,100 strong, marches along Fifth Avenue between lines of cheering citizens. Enthusiastic scenes are witnessed as the troops entrain. With many an "au revoir" the men depart for the base camp at Beekman. With New York only a memory the troops turn their thoughts forward to their new duties. The first bivouac.
