Dawson, New Mexico: An explosion causes a cave-in and 223 miners are buried behind tons of rock, 4.000 feet from human aid. The list of dead is one of the most appalling in the history of mining. Oregon Coast: With all sails set the British ship "Glenesslin" is driven on the rocks at the foot of the Neah-Kah-Nie mountain and ship and cargo are lost. The wreck is sold for $100.
