Liz interrupts the tension between Steve and Karen and asks Steve what's going on between the two of them. Martha clashes with an irritable Steve. Steve extracts a promise of a "consultation" from Karen. Later, he turns up at her apartment and intrudes. Karen accuses Steve of being kind to her in order to take advantage. Steve admits that he has the same opinion of himself and offers to leave her alone, but she makes a startling confession. Afterward, they offer very destructive views of one another.
