Mexicans dig trenches under guard of Illinois troops. Seattle, Wash: The huge main lock in the Government Canal, or fresh water channel between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, is completed and opened to traffic. Atlantic City, N.J: On Sunday, August 6th, 1916, this city had the largest attendance in its history, when over half a million persons visited the resort and took a dip in the surf.
