Nick advises that she has less than a week before surgery can no longer be an option. Nick wants Matt to forget Ed who was supposed to start three days ago but never showed up. Matt forces Nick to give Ed the same chance as Lila Anderson. Back in the lab, Nick finds Ed. The two men clash again, leading to a sensitive Ed walking out. Nick fails to stop Ed from leaving, but Matt smooths over the situation. Althea speculates that Lila's fear of medicine is imposed on her by someone else, such as her husband.
