Ayla's life partner, Sinan (56), is a clinical psychologist. The two meet in the spring of 1981 when Ayla visits Sinan's office for counseling. This client-therapist relationship quickly turns into love. Ayla is against marriage; Sinan, on the other hand, dreams of starting a family. However, the problem between these two contrasting characters is not just their views on marriage. Early on in their relationship, Sinan notices that Ayla has some psychotic issues. Ayla is schizophrenic; however, she is so highly intelligent that she can easily hide her psychological problems. Ayla grew up in an orphanage and witnessed many political traumas in Turkey. Amidst all these difficulties, Sinan ends up getting Ayla pregnant. From this pregnancy, they have a daughter named "Öykü" in 1990. However, after this birth, Ayla's mental state deteriorates. Sinan initially believes he can handle all these problems on his own; but over time, Ayla becomes uncontrollable. Ayla is raped by two coup leaders during the 1980 coup. Seher (55), a friend from the time they were both tortured, witnesses these events. So, what Ayla went through is not the fantasy of a schizophrenic patient. Seher is a woman who survived the 1978 Maras Alevi Massacre. Following the massacre, she too endured severe torture during the 1980 coup. Seher's brother was brutally killed by being boiled alive, simply for being Alevi, which led her to develop anarchist tendencies. Ayla cannot forget what happened to her or to other women. She finds herself consumed by her traumas more and more each day. In early 2009, Ayla and her family emigrate to Weil am Rhein, Germany. Sinan believes that this new life will be better for Ayla, but she cannot overcome her anger toward the coup leaders who raped her. In the winter of 2009, Ayla suddenly becomes filled with love. Everyone is surprised by her transformation from a cold-hearted person to a warm-hearted one. Over time, many people around her accept this change and believe that her mood has improved. During this period, Ayla spends time with all her friends and even begins to act as a mother to her daughter. People are happy with this positive atmosphere. However, Sinan is certain that something is wrong, but there is nothing he can do. He thinks that the best thing he can do is to keep a close eye on Ayla. But Ayla is a woman who is not to be taken lightly, and manages to stay one step ahead of Sinan. One day, when Ayla goes to her software office, she puts her assistant to sleep and flees to Istanbul. Sinan learns of what happened from the breaking news. Following this news, the entire family is plunged into deep mourning.
