While there has been a pullback, which panics average investors, Wilsey explains this is always to be expected after a new high mark. He also points out that the NFIB Small Business Confidence Index, while it dropped over the last month from 96 to 95, is still a good number. The drop simply means that small business owners don't see large increases going forward. Steve Weisman joins the show to talk about some recent scams that fall under the category of "spear fishing." These are generally emails that look to be from legitimate sources and are addressed to individuals rather than generic customers. Often scammers get names and emails by hacking other users in order to target people directly. Key clues to these scams often include serious errors in grammar or punctuation because they originate from other countries. Anthony Dohrmann talks about the importance of communication and preparation for entrepreneurs pitching investors or other contacts. He explains that confidence is important for both sides of the discussion and that entrepreneurs will benefit from being prepared for any and all questions that might come up. Dohrmann says that the two biggest reasons for failure in new businesses are lack of planning and lack of access to capital, and both can be avoided in part through good communication. Written by
