She lives by the umpire's oath, which she wrote, and takes her responsibility as an arbiter of sandlot justice seriously. When league commissioner and laundromat owner FERN HAMMON calls a meeting to tell Tammy that her colleague BUZZ EARLY got promoted to the pros thanks to some nepotism, Tammy is crushed. She learns that life isn't fair but refuses to give up, and decides to sell her prized grill to attend the Merrill McNally Umpire Academy, where she hopes she'll make the connections she needs to make it to achieve her dreams.
