Searching for work, Vera is forced to leave her hometown for the capital, where she finds a job as a cleaner in the studio of the renowned fashion photographer and womanizer Gennady Arbenin. Eager to add Vera to his collection, Arbenin wins her affection through a series of kind gestures. A romance blossoms between them, but, frightened by his true feelings, Gennady betrays Vera. Upon returning to her hometown, Vera finds her family on the brink of poverty and, in despair, agrees to marry the wealthy businessman Mikhail Bruman. Realizing his mistake, Gennady finds Vera and offers her a fresh start, but it is too late: Vera is already married to Bruman. Vera must choose between her heart and her mind, love and responsibility, because her family's financial well-being depends directly on Bruman: Vera's sister needs urgent surgery. See less
