When, during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic, a handful of people began placing flowers on a local cemetery for alleged child-victims of a secret network, the story quickly spread through social media, alternative news sites and religious groups. What began as a local rumour escalated into a moral panic that drew in journalists, politicians and prosecutors - forcing the Dutch justice system to intervene and confront the limits of free speech in the digital age. Through interviews, archival material and psychological reflection, the series follows those who believed, those who debunked, and those caught in between, revealing how truth, trauma and imagination can become fatally intertwined. Ultimately, Het Complot asks what these stories tell us about fear, belief and the fragility of trust in modern society. See less
