For Birgitta, Jouni, and Päivi, all in their sixties, it's normal to feel nervous at first; encouragement from friends is all it takes to brave the dance floor. The feeling, the atmosphere, the band, and drying the damp back of a dress with a hairdryer are all a part of the experience - along with that one late-night dance that gives you a heady rush. Everyone craves a sense of belonging. Yet in order to feel a connection, one has to risk getting rejected. The boldest act of the evening isn't asking someone to dance. It's daring to admit you need each other. At the dance pavilion, small things take on greater significance. The fleeting connections on the dance floor can be healing, and shared joy indeed is a double joy. Written by
