However, the parallel ends there, for the work of the two men is strikingly dissimilar. Thiebaud paints in the pop art style; one of his most famous paintings is the antiseptic Caged Pie. The sculptures of Voulkos are huge, monolithic, rocklike works, sometimes remarkably complex and dynamic, reflecting early years among the Montana sheepherders. As dissimilar as their work is their modes of living, and the program is a study of these two artists working in their respective studios, each at his respective art form and style. The thoughts, values and techniques of each are used to explore the creative act the area of interaction between the artist and his work.
