Russell Williams was asked to come to an interview at the Ottawa police station. Williams and his wife owned a house in Ottawa and although he was the commanding officer of Canada's largest air force base, Canadian Forces Base Trenton, he frequently spent weekends with his wife in the Nation's Capital. The interview was in connection with the disappearance 10 days earlier of a young woman by the name of Jessica Lloyd. Police found tire track and boot prints near Lloyd's house and the search began, one that lead them to Williams who lived in the family cottage during the week in the village of Tweed, Ontario just 20 minutes from her house and just a bit longer to CFB Trenton. The police were also investigating another murder, that of Cpl. Marie-France Comeau, who also worked at the base, and 2 other sexual assaults. By the time Williams appeared for the interview at Ottawa police headquarters, the police suspected they had their man as they had already matched the tire prints to Williams. Expertly questioned by Ontario provincial Police (OPP) Det. Sgt. Jim Smith, Williams initially denied knowing any of the women involved. Over several hours, Smith builds a rapport with Williams and then presents him with the proof that he is their man and after being questioned for 4 hours and 40 minutes, Williams admits to everything. In the end, Williams pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to life imprisonment with no opportunity for parole for 25 years. Written by garykmcd See less
