Following the mysterious death of his father, native Grey Antooguk inherits the most sought after land near the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Colton Shaw, Project Manager for Gold Coast Pipeline Construction Company, and his crew have come to Kaktovik to provide the village with basic amenities. When Grey sees Colton's wife, Reed, for the first time, he is consumed with an obsessive passion, in spite of his long-standing and well-known hatred of white people. Delaney Delingfield, Gold Coast's office manager, uses her job to expose a thirty year old secret and take back the oil land she is convinced was wrongfully stolen from her.
