One of the largest manufacturers is BioDroid, who supply robots to care for the elderly and to provide companionship for the lonely. They also make military robots. One such military robot (Eve3) is purchased in error by Tom Ihnatko, a recently widowed insurance adjuster looking for company in any form and quickly the two form a bond, some kind of love. Being less than interested in "love", the military and BioDroid want Eve3 back, forcing her and Tom on the run with the full might of the military and BioDroid after them.
