He and his mother were hidden by two farming families until the end of the war. In 1947, at the age of 11, he immigrated to Israel. He went on to serve in key public roles - including as a negotiator in the peace talks with Egypt and later as a Supreme Court judge for 28 years, 11 of them as President of the Supreme Court.
