Emilie achieved success far beyond Sweden's borders with her novels. Just like for Camilla Läckberg, the west coast and her hometown of Strömstad were her landscape and the world from which she drew inspiration for her most successful novels. Emelie was born in Strömstad in 1807, in an old merchant's house full of magical objects and surrounded by sailors' stories of shipwrecks and smuggling routes. Her father was a sea captain and merchant, she accompanied him on his voyages and as a teenager she was given responsibility for her own boat. An unusual upbringing for a woman in the early 19th century. It is this world that later in life would become the starting point for her greatest book successes. Written by SR P4 See less
