In this live talk show, photographer and photo book enthusiast Rob Hornstra and documentary photographer Giya Makondo-Wills interview the storytellers - photographers, designers and publishers. They share extraordinary stories on a variety of subjects. For everyone who loves stories and wants to be transported to another world by the storytellers themselves. The guests in this new edition: Photographer Vanessa Winship is our guest to talk about her latest book, "Snow". Winship is known for her intimate portraits, but in "Snow" the landscape of the midwestern United States takes centre stage. The grey and foggy atmospheres in "Snow" are full of secrets. What drew Winship to these landscapes? What did she see in those fields that kept her returning during the cold, harsh winters? Karine Zenja Versluis talks about her recently published book "Debaltsevo, Where Are You?" Karine's Ukrainian grandmother was not very talkative, especially when it came to her past. In 2013, Karine decides to investigate. Who exactly was her grandmother? And how did she end up in the Netherlands? The search must begin in Debaltseve (Debaltseve was the Russian name of the city until the invasion, and her grandmother always used it). But then war broke out there in 2014. Over the next ten years, the project unfolds, bringing together different stories. That of Karine's grandmother, but also the stories of three families who had to flee from Debaltseve to a safer place in Ukraine in 2015. And again in 2022 after the invasion. "Debaltsevo, Where Are You?" is also part of the exhibition "Whispers and Shouts. Voices of Ukrainian Women", which is now on display at FOTODOK. In "Freedom is Not Free", Mashid Mohadjerin investigates the meaning of freedom. Through the lens of her camera and a kaleidoscope of the history of women in resistance, Mohadjerin has created a multidimensional book that takes the viewer on a dreamlike journey that is bound neither by space nor time.
