As soon as the news was announced, over forty of the authors invited expressed their unease in a letter to Jürgen Boos, director of this international event. And with good reason: this decision comes against a backdrop of increasing interference in the arts by Giorgia Meloni's ultraconservative government, which openly claims to be fighting against the alleged cultural hegemony of the Left. At a time when writer Roberto Saviano has been excluded from the Italian delegation, concerns are being raised about the respect and maintenance of freedom of expression.
