The story takes place in the heart of the South Bronx, where cultural lines can sometimes become obscured by bigotry and lust on the streets. The story follows the lives of two individuals Gabriel Spencer aka Angel and Antonia Nieves "Tony", both from different worlds, yet haunted by the same past, a past that neither one can escape. When Angel, a young Africa American male struggling to resist the lure of the streets falls in love with Tony, a sassy yet complicated Latina from the "Eastside La Familia" street crew. Angel will soon find out that his love for Tony may come at a very heavy price. For Tony, having been lied to, neglected and abused by those she love most, Tony would turn to the streets for comfort, only there the codes of survival are not that quit simple, "You Protect What's yours" at any cost. A code she would soon become quite familiar with during her raise as Queen Bee to the "Eastside La Familia". Under the protection of his best friend Chaz, a hard nose street dealer and leader of the notorious Rebels of Destruction (ROD). Angel will soon see the lines of loyalty become completely blurred, the very moment he falls in love with this girl who possesses a deep dark secret that may destroy them both. Will Tony be forced to choose from the life she's grown to accept or will this new stranger who offers her a chance at a new beginning change everything. As for Angel, his loyalties to Chaz are put to the ultimate test when asked to betray his longtime friendship for the woman he loves.
