This is the story of James Ham and Bessie Oliver-Ham, a black couple who accumulated over 400 acres of land during the height of Prohibition, Civil Rights efforts and the Jim Crow South. Long before desegregation, this well-respected couple hosted frequent gatherings in their home for their Black and White neighbors, highlighted by James' homemade moonshine (which he often sold to local police) and Bessie's famous parlor. While James continued to purchase land, Bessie had the foresight to place it in a trust for future generations. Follow Dario Harris and his family as they dissect the complexities of race relations, ownership and family legacy.
