While Ruth enjoys that aspect of meeting the public, Barbara is contemplating quitting because of it, those encounters which are the sole bane of her working life. Ruth does understand Barbara's perspective in once having felt the same way, but ultimately changed, she, telling Barbara as much, discovering that her previously antagonistic encounters with the public were a reflection of herself.
