In the first challenge, the cooks have sixty minutes to prepare a dish highlighting what they consider their secret pantry ingredient. In that inference, the judges want to be able to taste the ingredient but not be so overwhelmed by it. The cooks are asked to narrow down that pantry ingredient for the second challenge for which they again have sixty minutes. The pantry item that needs to be highlighted is the grain of their choice.
