For the majority of Serbian citizens, it became important only after the murder, as a symbol of impunity for crime. He was politically marginalized in Kosovo in 2014 when he was arrested on suspicion of participating in war crimes in Kosovo. The prosecution and judiciary are then managed by EULEX as part of the EU mission. The EULEX indictment against Ivanovic came as a surprise to many. While he was in custody, individuals from the international community, as well as representatives of the authorities in Serbia, lobbied for his release, even though they were not on the same side politically. Ivanovic claimed that he was not involved in war crimes and that he would prove it. The court proceedings were interrupted when he was killed on January 16, 2018. years. See less
