Preteen Herb has just bought a chemistry set for himself. His younger adolescent brother Billy is enthralled with what Herb seems to be able to do in mixing chemicals in the test tubes. Billy wants to play with the chemistry set, but Herb won't let him, which Billy believes isn't fair. Herb and Billy usually have a good relationship in especially Herb sharing many of his belongings with his younger brother. This denial of Billy being able to play with the chemistry set sets in motion series of incidents between the brothers, again the questions asked with each subsequent action being what is considered fair especially in light of the results of those actions.
