However, for the first time in its history, a television crew was allowed to spend several weeks there. Agents from all departments confided in us about their motivations. They recounted how they were transformed from engineers, soldiers, students, linguists and editors into France's "secret agents" through demanding training courses. For the first time, they were also allowed to illustrate their remarks with two types of mission: the fight against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and the hunt for those responsible for a jihadist attack in Mauritania in 2007.
