It fit Volkswagen's tagline, created by DDB in earlier print ads, which was Driver's Wanted. The initial voice recorded for the campaign was Robert Firth. Unfortunately for the creatives at VW, a similar concept had been developed by Kia Motors at around the same time. As a consequence, the commercials were scraped, and only a few spots were aired in Canada, with a different female announcer.
