In November 1942 the zone libre of France was invaded by the German and Italian armies as a response to the Operation Torch-the Allied landings in North Africa-: at the same time the scuttling of the French Fleet at Toulon.On January 1943 ...See moreIn November 1942 the zone libre of France was invaded by the German and Italian armies as a response to the Operation Torch-the Allied landings in North Africa-: at the same time the scuttling of the French Fleet at Toulon.On January 1943 the Anfa Conference in Morocco-Roosevelt, Churchill and De Gaulle-: the proposal of Churchill to open a second military front in the Balkans is not accepted: there will be 2 landings-one in the north of France the Overlord operation and one in the south of France the Dragoon operation.The French army is then trained and equipped by the American and British armies in North Africa.In Novembre the German Army was laying mines and building blockhouses along the coast.The Allied organized reconnaissance flights and later bombed Marseille and Toulon: the French Resistance is gathering data and making sabotages of the railway tracks and bridges.The landing will take place in the Côtes des Maures: the Sitka Force towards the islands of Hyères, the Roméo force towards the Cap Nègre and the Rosie Force towards Le Trayas and in the same night parachutists and gliders coming from Italy will arrive at Le Muy near Draguignan.On the morning the Delta Force disembarked between Cavalaire-sur-mer, Saint Tropez, Fréjus , Saint-Raphaël and Anthéor- about 115000 US soldiers and on August 16th De Lattre de Tassigny is landing: then some difficult moments at Soliès-Ville and La Valette before the liberation of Toulon, at the same time the general Monsabert will be in charge of liberating Marseille,: insurrection of the French Resistance and strong fights again the pockets of resistance of the German Army-Note Dame de la Garde-.Finally the German generals surrender on 28th August in Toulon and Marseille: then the Armies of Overlord and Dragon meet together on 12th September 1944 in the north of Dijon.
