She is the daughter of the beloved foreman. Max fires Odette's fiancé Claude so she can become his mistress. When the girl won't give in, Maw fires her and her father too. In protest, all the miners start a strike. Murias warns them against it and saves his boss from the crowd. Grateful, Max eventually promises a future of peace and harmony.
