Henry is a troubled alcoholic and talented writer living in Paris who falls in love with an attractive and assertive young woman named Anna after she reads his books and gains a deep interest in him. Their relationship starts off very passionate and they have a playful chemistry - but as time goes on the fire between them dissipates and the underlying problems between them grows as they struggle to accept each other's failures and flaws . Anna questions Henry's loyalty and his laziness towards his writing (as well as his excessive alcohol usage) while Henry struggles listen and be emotionally intimate with her. Henry continues his work (and to drink) despite this and looks back on what went wrong between them after their relationship eventually fails and they are forced to go their separate ways.
