All basic gameplay mechanics are identical to Red Orchestra 2 - in fact, the multiplayer mode of the base game can be accesses with Rising Storm, too. The only major differences are the absence of vehicles and singleplayer campaign. To imitate the conditions of the real war, there are differences between the two factions: while the US has more powerful automatic weapons and flame throwers, the Japanese can initiate a banzai attack which restricts the target abilities of the enemy (and gets more powerful when more team members take part), make land mines with their grenades and have a suicide attack without penalty.
