Like many working-class towns in the early twentieth century, Barrow-in-Furness, on England's North-West coast, developed a huge culture of cinema-going and at one point had ten cinemas, many of which were art deco built. 'Hooked' looks at universal themes such as Saturday cinema club visits, the attraction of screen sirens and the perceived 'glamour' of being staff, alongside a timeline starting with Barrow's first purpose-built cinema in 1910 through to the closing of its last great art deco 'picture house' almost ninety years later.
