Three couples of friends are accompanied during two summers in an outdoor swimming pool. In the first summer they are on the verge of puberty. The four girls are aware of the development of their bodies. The two boys are still very childlike and playful. The teenagers speak different languages, are tall and short, tanned or not, long and short haired and are interested in completely different things. But they all like french fries and the orange slide. In the summer two years later, their appearance and behavior have visibly changed. They have matured into independent and interesting young people. They still go to the swimming pool. They all know each other now from high school, from their first parties or from mutual friends. In the intervening 20 months, their mystical forest pool has also undergone a major transformation: It is being completely renovated and given a modern makeover. The pool becomes not only a stage, but also a symbol of this wondrous metamorphosis in the life of every human being.
