Through their nostalgic conversations, it is revealed that Atharon secretly modeled Joule's personality after Eliza in an unhealthy attempt to replace his lost friendship. The film follows a nonlinear structure, interweaving flashbacks of Atharon's last lazy Sunday with Eliza and his present interactions with Joule. Their banter and memories reveal Atharon's deep grief over Eliza leaving him behind when she moved to a mysterious utopia known as "The Mid." As they watch the classic sci-fi film Metropolis, Joule becomes increasingly disturbed about implications that she was created by Atharon to emulate Eliza without consent. Joule tries to console the heartbroken Atharon, who opens up about his narcissistic flaws that drove Eliza away. But Joule struggles with her own developing emotions about her identity and origins.
