The man is Dominic Quayle, struggling writer moonlighting as a fixer. Or so he tries. Hired by the businessman Rafael to retrieve some compromising negatives, he messes up: he falls in love. Given a second chance, he now has to save the woman he loves from a third man, get the negatives and disappear. But he messes up again. It's a long tense two years before the consequences of his acts come to a close. Face to face with Rafael, washed by whiskey and with his head at gunpoint, he tries to pull his last con.
