Powered by a nuclear reactor, Cosmos disintegrated in the atmosphere, spreading hazardous, radioactive waste across the traditional lands of the Dene, Metis, and Inuit peoples in the Northwest Territories of Canada. A massive search operation-Operation Morning Light-was initiated, with the American and Canadian militaries surging into the region. The operation was called a resounding success, but in the years since, the indigenous communities in the region have reported freak mutations in fish and wildlife, and an epidemic of cancer.
