He is heartbroken when Beth tries to return their favorite childhood bedtime story book and the 'magic' glasses he wore when he read it to her. Seeing he is crushed by the revelation that she is growing up too quickly, she makes him an offer. She'll hold on to the book (her innocence in his mind) for another year, if he'll wear the glasses for the day. Dan's world is turned upside down when he can magically see people's innermost being, not who they appear to be.
