To fulfill this wish, Police Commissioner Girwidz goes Nordic walking in the woods with his entire team, but this is met with very little enthusiasm. It's almost a stroke of luck when Sonja Wirth discovers a body in the undergrowth just a few meters away. The deceased was the operator of a casino and had been beaten to death, as Dr. Anja Licht soon discovers. Hubert and Staller immediately head to the casino. While Hubert indeed discovers traces of blood, gambling addict Joseph Amstetter explains to Staller how the slot machines work. Shortly thereafter, Staller hits the jackpot and feels magically drawn to the machines from then on. And with his luck at gambling, things seem to be going much better for the flirtatious officer in his love life as well. The operator of the second casino in town, in particular, makes ambiguous allusions when Hubert and Staller question her.
