Spending most of its life in the ocean, this largest member of the herring family comes back to its river of birth when it is 4-6 years old. The spring migration of the American shad was a large part of the economy of the Delaware Valley as recently as the early twentieth century, but overfishing and pollution brought their numbers down. Water quality regulations and fishing limits brought them back, but their numbers are on the decline again. This film follows the fishermen and scientists who are doggedly committed to shad restoration. Written by
