Those families arrived from all over Brazil some thirty years ago, encouraged by the Amazonian dream of being owners of a parcel of land: a small piece oh this huge Amazon. In order to produce - and survive - in this ungrateful an scarcely fertile land, these small farmers had to endlessly burn and encroach on the forest, contributing significantly to the Amazonian deforestation.
