Using a dream within a dream within a dream structure, this film touches upon the Homunculus dilemma in philosophy of mind: if it's true that a mind or spirit or Homunculus (little person) controls and experiences all the sense data and representations of the body, then it must, in itself, contain another spirit or Humunculus experiencing those representations, which in turn contain another Homunulus...and so on.
