They settled in Vancouver where his father Mr. Matin opened a tailor shop. Hoping to return to his homeland once the Soviet war was finished, Mr. Matin expended much effort to pass on his culture to Arash. The young boy, however, deemed the move permanent and did not show much interest in learning Farsi, his father's native language. The family never did move back to Afghanistan. More than twenty years later, Mr. Matin has passed away and Arash is still struggling with his identity trying to find the missing pieces. Written by
