When Charles and Perrine Hervé-Gruyer bought an old building in Normandy, surrounded by a vast meadow with a stream running through it, all they wanted to do was grow a small orchard to live self-sufficiently, and they imported permaculture methods to France. Nineteen years later, the Bec Hellouin farm, flourishing and successful, has become an open-air laboratory that reconciles agriculture and nature. It's almost like being in an eco-museum dedicated to the farming world of yesteryear. And yet, this is perhaps where the agriculture of tomorrow is being prepared.
