The event celebrates black performing artists past, present and future, and historically, has attracted some of the world's foremost black opera stars, classical musicians and outstanding student performers, including Broadway legend Avery Sommers, celebrated Tenor Roderick George, colorful Baritone Ivan Griffin and Met Opera star Soprano Louise Toppin. The event benefits the Delta Delta Lambda Chapter of the historic and prestigious Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, whose brothers include legends upon legends: Duke Ellington, Lionel Richie, and the late, great Donnie Hathaway.
