Abused by repeated use of the homophobic taunt 'batty', Des' sense of self and sexuality is threatened, spilling over into a heightened confusion in his relationship with wife Evie. As the maelstrom engulfs Des he responds to the destruction of a tiny love token by viciously attacking the pupil in a manner both sickening yet strangely appropriate.
