Davie wants to get close to his father but his father continues to push him away. Archie is searching for the missing female presence in the house. Archie swings from regression to boyhood to angry and defiant adulthood. His loss, frustration and anger at his predicament come to an aggressive climax and he hits Davie. Davie sees he has nothing to lose and is able to let down his cover and reveal himself as he really is - as Gloria.
