Of these inmates, 98 percent will eventually re-enter society. LeJhoyn Holland and Bill Rasor were released from the state prison in Hillsborough, North Carolina, in the summer of 2009; each had served 25 years of a life sentence for first-degree murder. They face long odds. Sixty-five percent of ex-offenders return to prison. Against the Tide follows Holland and Rasor from the day of release, through the challenges and choices they meet in their transition back into society.
