There are many similarities between types, mainly exhibiting the characteristics of apathy and lack of interest in socialization. Hebephrenics, and catatonic and paranoid patients are delusional, and often will converse or argue with imaginary individuals or him/herself. The motor functions of different types are discussed: hebephrenics have repetitive motor functions; some catatonics will allow themselves to be manipulated into different positions almost like they are made of wax, although they will slowly revert into a natural position, while others are at the other extreme of being rigid in resisting change to their position; and a small percentage of catatonics are compelled to mimic the movements of those they observe.
