The guests: Jonathan Ruffle - Probably best known for creating, writing and co-producing TOMMIES for BBC Radio 4. Also a commentator at History Events. Marcel Bahnen - is a Dutch visual designer, photographer and owner of ImageworX. He has more then 25 years experience in illustrative design and attends numerous living history events as a photographer. Jon Bernstein is the currently serving Arms and Armor Curator at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia, but he has spent the better part of the last three decades as a museum professional, aviation historian and author. The questions: 1) What is your connection with living history / re-enactment? 2) Visual story telling. In your various different ways you each convey history through story. How does living history re-enactment enhance this? 3) Do you believe that living historians are perceived negatively by the "academic" history sector? If so why? This is a really fascinating point and I think all of us have experience of this. I find it really odd that anyone could conclude that spending years with the uniforms and clothing of WWII is any less "worthy" than studying archives etc. 4) What are your hopes for the future in terms of explaining the past through multiple media? How might museums, the internet, living history, film, TV and radio combine to offer a more multi-sense recreation of history? Written by Paul Woodadge See less
