After the lapse of time, one of the brothers, having met with serious reverses on the stock market, becomes desperately poor, while the other has risen to be the head of the large manufacturing concern. The poor brother's family, being in need of food, his wife begs him, for their little daughter's sake, to ask aid of his wealthy brother. He refuses at first, but finally gives in and goes to his brother's factory and implores assistance. The rich brother, being ashamed of the relationship, takes him aside and not only refuses aid, but orders him to leave the premises at once. Returning home, helpless and hopeless, he receives a special delivery letter informing him that some of his mining stock he had believed worthless had taken a sudden rise. With the letter was enclosed a check for a handsome amount. The wheel of fortune had taken another turn. The same turn of the wheel sent the rich brother on the downward path, through the gradual failure of his concern, and thus, after another lapse of years, the once poor brother becomes the rich brother, while the formerly wealthy brother becomes the poor brother. Situations are reversed. The poor brother now lives with his family in miserable quarters, and, unable to meet his landlord's demand for rent, faces eviction into the street. Finally, yielding to his wife's entreaties, he in turn goes to beg assistance of his brother, calling upon him at his handsome residence. He is met with the same spirit that he had exhibited towards his brother on the former occasion, is reminded of his own heartlessness under like circumstances and ordered into the street. Heartbroken, he totters from the house. The daughter of the rich brother has overheard her father and uncle talking and as soon as the latter leaves the room she rushes in, and gently chiding the former for his cruelty to his own flesh and blood, begs him to forgive the past. Not waiting, however, for his reply, she dashes out of the house, and overtaking her uncle, she persuades him to return. The brothers meet again, and yielding to the importunities of his young daughter, the wealthy brother agrees to extend aid to the unfortunate one. The latter attempts to seize the other's hand and kneel in gratitude, but the other will not allow it, but shoves him back. Then, after a brief mental struggle, the rich man offers his hand to the poor man, and the two once more become brothers in spirit as well as blood. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
